If you’ve claimed and manage a Google My Business page for your company, your base knowledge will help understand the new developments. If you’re new Google My Business, we suggest you check out this post on the basics first.

Update Your Photos to Be Better at Google My Business

Recently, Google introduced some exciting improvements to the photos section of My Business. The update offers subcategories for easier organization on the back-end for business users, giving you more control of how you can use photos to market in search. It also allows businesses to distinguish which photos it would like to showcase on search engine results pages. Businesses have the option to add interior or exterior shots, in addition, of course, to a Google Business View 360° virtual tour.

As with most social media platforms, Google My Business allows for users to have a profile picture and a cover photo. My Business now also allows for a logo image and business-specific photos. Business-specific photos are divided into six different categories: identity, interior, exterior, photos at work, team, and additional.

‘Identity photos’ is the umbrella category for profile, cover, and logo images. Once these images have been chosen, users can then pick a preferred photo to show up in Google’s search engine results pages. Although, Google makes no guarantee that this photo will be the one used.

The other five image categories are fairly simple to navigate, and they allow for photos to be segmented on the back-end instead of all lumped together in “additional photos.” The differentiation doesn’t appear to people viewing the business page yet, but it’s likely to appear in the future.

Since My Business is attached to Google’s search engine, adding more photos helps bring users to your Google My Business Page, and ultimately to your website. It allows consumers to see the atmosphere of a retail store, the past work of a service company, the culture at a nonprofit, or the delicious food at a restaurant.
