This weekend, while you’re shut in from the snow and cold, turn on some extreme weather movies. Whether you’re fantasizing of heat and humidity or love digging your way out of a blizzard, this week’s Friday Face-off sets tundra versus tropics in a movie smackdown.
Tropics
“Boy oh boy, it’s really hot, huh? Pardon me, but don’t you ever sweat?”
Anaconda
Fortunately snakes are cold-blooded and prefer warmer climates. Unfortunately, Jon Voigt is the closest thing to an actual snake in this movie.
Cast Away
Product placement with a plot—maybe Fedex should have installed air-conditioning on the island. They wanted to appear down-to-earth, so they refrained.
Finding Nemo
Set in the ocean near Australia, which is weird because there is a lack of the ever-so-charming Aussie accent in this movie. Basically, this movie is very unrealistic … and HOT!
12 Angry Men
No, this isn’t a movie about all my athletic coaches having to ‘deal’ with me.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
The name says it all, except about the actual plot of the movie.
Tundra
“Your Tauntaun will freeze before you reach the first marker!”
Everest
Climbers attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest in a dangerous blizzard… without bathroom breaks (No!!!!!).
The Grey
Wolves versus Liam Neeson (and his specific set of skills).
Ice Age
Ray Romano as a Mammoth. Do you think he has nightmares about being a mammoth showing up to school in his underwear?
Dr. Zhivago
Set in Russia during the revolution. Fur hats, heavy coats: Staying hip and fashionable despite tumultuous, unstable times.
Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
Hoth. Ice planet. Enough said.
